OCTA 1625 Client analysis and Reasoning

In this course, the student learns to analyze activities used in human occupations to recognize function and/or dysfunction that impact the performance of life skills/tasks.  The teaching-learning process will be explored, along with therapeutic use of self to allow students opportunities to apply knowledge and skills obtained from previous courses.  Different methods and media are incorporated throughout the course to facilitate student learning in solving problems related to occupational dysfunction.  Emphasis will be placed upon reasoning appropriate to individual treatment, relating to ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic factors.  Students will independently produce three formal presentations:  1) diagnosis review, 2) case study, and 3) activity analysis (Independent Project).  Student preparations for these formal presentations are managed through Professional OT Development, OT documentation exercises are incorporated in this course in conjunction with Fieldwork Level I observations to assist the student in developing observational skills and problem solving techniques that will later be utilized to enhance performance during Level II clinical affiliations.  This course is for OTA majors only.
