Computer Information Systems Course Descriptions
The Computer Information Systems program at UIW offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Cyber Security Systems (CSEC), providing students with the theoretical and experiential knowledge and skills required for a diversity of in-demand and challenging career opportunities.
CIS and CSEC majors share foundational and advanced courses in computer hardware, operating systems, programming, networking, security, telecommunications, website development, database systems, systems analysis, and management of IT organizations.
Students in the CIS major specialize in one of five areas: computer programming, cyber security, computer networking, website development, and emerging technologies. Students in the CSEC major also study intrusion detection and response, legal issues in cyber security, information assurance, network security management, and risk management and policies. All students in both majors are also required to conduct internships and demonstrate expertise in a capstone/practicum project in the area of their concentration.
Students who wish to enhance their chosen field of study may complete a minor.
